Adding Polygon MATIC to Metamask wallet is a preferred method for those who don’t mind spending some extra time to reduce gas fees on the Ethereum network. When buying Polygon NFTs via Opensea, bridging is the go to method due to its simplicity. However, bridging is expensive as you have to pay gas fees due to use of the Ethereum network. By default, MetaMask is setup to use the Ethereum network. We need to add the Polygon Network to our MetaMask. This will then allow you to buy polygon based NFTs in Opensea. Below is a guide on adding Polygon MATIC to Metamask wallet. You can also view our How to buy NFTs on Polygon guide.
How to Add MATIC to Metamask
- Ensure you have your Metamask wallet connected to the Polygon network. The easiest way to add the Polygon network to MetaMask is to go to https://polygonscan.com. Then scroll down to the bottom of page and click ‘Add to Polygon Network’. Then click approve when the message appears in your MetaMask wallet.
- Buy MATIC using a coinbase or binance account.
- Send MATIC (MATIC network) from coinbase or binance to your Metamask Polygon network account.
